Continuity Chair - 2017

This chair’s design is one of delicate beauty and strength that supplies a feeling of suspense to play with user expectation. This chair uses six separate bends of ash wood to construct the frame, and dowels to form the seat as well as maintain the structure. With the use of steam bending, the frame’s continuous U-shaped bends intersect pivotally to create a chair that is both proportionate and comfortable. The seat’s fabric, in this prototype, is made from one long, uncut, string of parachute cord. This seat allows a slight flex while still being stable. While perhaps appearing fragile to the eye, this chair maintains its rigidity and comfort that may surprise those bold enough to take a seat.
